WHY WE DO NOT ALLOW VISITS PRIOR TO PUPPY PICKUP
We are often asked why we do not allow prospective families to visit our home before puppy pickup. We completely understand the desire to meet a breeder, see where the puppies are raised, and spend time with the litter before making a decision.
At Legendary Labrador Retrievers, however, our visitor policy is based on one priority: protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our puppies, adult dogs, and family.
Our puppies are raised inside our home as part of our family. Because our home is also the environment where newborn and young puppies are being cared for, we do not permit in-person visits before puppies are ready to leave for their new homes.
PROTECTING THE HEALTH OF OUR PUPPIES
Young puppies have developing immune systems and are especially vulnerable to infectious diseases. Viruses such as parvovirus can be carried into an environment on shoes, clothing, hands, or other objects without a visitor realizing they have been exposed.
Even when visitors are healthy and well-intentioned, allowing multiple people into the puppies’ living environment increases unnecessary exposure during a very important stage of development. Limiting outside traffic helps us maintain the cleanest and safest environment possible for every litter.
PROTECTING THE MOTHER AND HER LITTER
The first several weeks after birth are also an important bonding and recovery period for the mother. Some mothers can become anxious or overly protective when unfamiliar people enter the area where their puppies are being raised.
Our goal is to provide each mother with a calm, predictable environment where she can comfortably care for her puppies without unnecessary disruption. Reducing stress and outside activity around the litter allows us to focus on the puppies’ care, development, and socialization.
A RESPONSIBILITY TO EVERY PUPPY FAMILY
Once a puppy has been reserved, we consider ourselves the temporary caretakers of someone else’s future family member. We take that responsibility very seriously.
Every family deserves to receive a healthy puppy that has been protected as carefully as possible during those first critical weeks. Our visitor policy applies equally to everyone and is one of the precautions we use to help protect the entire litter.
PROTECTING OUR HOME, DOGS, AND FAMILY
Legendary Labrador Retrievers is a home-based breeding program rather than a public kennel or petting facility. Our adult dogs live here, our puppies are raised here, and this is also our family’s private home.
For that reason, we limit access to our property and do not offer casual puppy visits or appointments simply to spend time with a litter. This policy protects the privacy and security of our family and also minimizes unnecessary disruption for our dogs and puppies.
HOW WE HELP YOU FEEL CONFIDENT IN YOUR DECISION
We understand that choosing a breeder is an important decision, and we want families to feel comfortable and informed before reserving a puppy.
We are happy to answer questions about our breeding program, parent dogs, health testing, puppy-raising practices, and policies. We also share regular photos and videos as our puppies grow and can provide references from previous puppy families upon request.
Our reputation, communication, health practices, and the experiences of our puppy families are important to us. We want you to feel confident that your puppy is being raised with care even before you are able to meet them in person.
Thank you for understanding and respecting this policy. It allows us to keep the focus where it belongs: on raising healthy, happy, well-socialized Labrador Retriever puppies in a safe and loving environment.
